IAM NEWS: JIANG NAMED FOUNDING DIRECTOR OF ASIAN DEMOGRAPHIC INSTITUTE

IAM PROJECT SCIENTIST NAMED FOUNDING DIRECTOR FOR INSTITUTE FOR ASIAN DEMOGRAPHIC RESEARCH AT SHANGHAI UNIVERSITY

IAM Project Scientist Leiwen Jiang will serve as Founding Director and lead a research group on population and the environment/climate for the newly-established Institute for Asian Demographic Research at Shanghai University. The Institute was created in July 2015 to increase capacity to respond to expected socioeconomic, demographic, and environmental changes and to the need for in-depth comparative analysis at both the global and regional level.

The institute will help create a platform for international research, training, and communications for the Asian region and will take advantage of advancement in formal demographic methods and models to study a wide range of policy-relevant topics in population, economic, and environmental research in order to identify commonalities and differences among societies. The institute will collaborate with numerous organizations, including the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR), National University of Singapore, Australian National University, and Chulalongkorn University. It will also function as the headquarters for the Asian MetaCentre for Population and Sustainable Development Analysis, a regional center in population and sustainable development research and training workshops.
